0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

#0202_A_View_from_West_Jerusalem

"Simply shameful. Have you heard what's going on at the ‘Barbur Gallery’ in Jerusalem? [1] On Memorial Day, the gallery will have a meeting between bereaved Israeli families and bereaved families of the enemy.

If a person wants to spit on the memory of his murdered child, that's his business. If a person wants to compare the casualties of the IDF and the victims of terror attacks with terrorists, despite my opinion of him, that is his own prerogative. But to create such a discourse which legitimizes terrorism and equates it to the IDF's legitimization within the public sphere should be forbidden. IDF soldiers are not terrorists and terrorist organizations do not have the legitimacy of the IDF.

I am in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court together with Arieh King, hoping for an honorable ruling from an ‘Israeli’ court."

– Abraham Bloch

[Selected Comments]:
– “Not all Palestinian casualties in the conflict are terrorists (even if you were to assume that most are) – I hope you are aware of this.”
– “In 1948, those who remained collaborated with Qawuqji. In 1967, these were Jordanians, Syrians, Egyptians, etc. And so on.. Want to remember them? That's your business. On our memorial day? In a public property that receives its budget from the state? Never.”

[1] ‘Barbur Gallery’ is a gallery in the heart of the Nachlaot neighborhood. The gallery has been under constant attack by a number of political figures seeking to have the gallery shut down by the Jerusalem Municipality for organizing controversial events.
