0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

"The Occupation authorities built three new military centers near Bab Al-Amud [Damascus Gate] entrance.

Report by: Christine Rinawi "

– Palestine TV

[Translation of the news report in the video:]
"The Occupation has left no means of oppressing the authentic identity of Jerusalem undone, in their plans for Judaization. The latest assault was to build three security stations for Occupation forces at the entrance to Damascus Gate. This threat to one of the most important symbols in Jerusalem began three months ago, as they started the construction […] They published these signs, which claim that any victim [of the construction] can appeal it, even though construction has already come to an end.

This mentality of the army's approach to everything is their security solution. It wants to impose an ugly reality that shows its way, and this place will not change, it will remain the place and an icon of the Palestinians in general. Another blow to Bab al-Amud is that they do not even recognize this name. They call it the Damascus Gate.

The residents of Jerusalem who are under Occupation are noticing the changes taking place in their city every day, as the Occupation of the city continues. Alhaj Nagi Nagib, 71-years old and who observed these Judaizing operations, recalls the days when Jerusalem was not occupied:
'The vehicles would leave Bab Al-Amud for all the Arab states: Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia… Anyone who wanted to go to these countries would just grab his Jordanian passport and go.'

The role of the Jerusalemite is to preserve the city and to be a 'thorn in the throat of the occupier' [1] who is managing time to create a new reality in the city's soil.

No matter what changes the Occupation makes in Jerusalem's features, it will remain the Holy City, with its mosques and churches. Its historical streets and stones will remain to tell its authentic story, no matter how arrogant the occupier gets. This is what the Jerusalemites believe.
From Bab al-Amud, Christine Rinawi, the occupied capital."

Editor's Note:
[1] 'a thorn in the throat of __' – is a saying connected to the story of The Wolf and the Crane from Aesop fables. It symbolizes how something as small as a bone in the throat of the predator can paralyze it.
